Willington Lakes

Keen to avenge last weeks bagel, duck egg, doughnut......I had to go out and chuck some fluff.

Continuing my exploration of DCAC waters I went to Willington to sample the Island Lake and see what I could find.

Started on the North shore with a "down & dirty on" a fly that I often start with on new waters. Fished across the wind and worked my way around to the Checking Station. First up did not see a lot moving however after an hour the odd fish did start to show on the top. Still no pull on the line, so after a few more fly changes I rigged up a 3 fly arrangement with a bloodworm on the point, diawl bach in the middle, and a buzzer on the top dropper. Drifted this across the wind, and bang, first cast was into a fish. My first fish on a Bloodworm! A nice 2lber, was a good size.

Few casts later I was into my second of the day. This one was only just over a pound, but it shot around the lake like mad. This one was on the diawl bach, also my first fish on this fly.

It all went a bit quiet then, although I did see the odd fish take a fly off the top!!

It got close to the time I had to leave, but I saw a fish swim under my feet, so slapped the fly infront of him......and bang, 3rd fish of the day. Again about 2lb.

:-)

All in all a good 3 hours fishing.

Foremark

Was my first trip to Foremark on the 11th April.

Managed to convince a fellow DCAC member to come along with me and show me the ropes. After the glorious weather on the saturday it was a little overcast and very windy. However we were reliably informed that the fish were still close in, all around Flamingo Bay.

We commandeered the "launch", and dropped anchor in the bay and starting working all around the boat. It was not long before we both had a few pulls, however Iain was the first to land the fish. I continued to plug away using a variety of flies......Iain kept catching, I kept getting pulls but nothing.

We left the bay at around midday.....Iain had 6 to his name....I had 0, was a blank on the cards?....

In a word...

yes....

Iain had to go, so I tried some more fishing around the flamingo bay area, and had 3 or more pulls....manage to bend 2 hooks in the process (these were brand new hooks as well).

I think it was just one of those days where nothing much was going to work.

Ah well.
